Apple makes it easy to take screen share with iOS and macOS with new devices

Here is a procedure on how to screen share with iOS, iPhone, iPad, iPods and macOS to help friends and family with new devices without any third-party software.

Mac to Mac Screen Sharing

Providing support to others can be even smoother when you can take control of their device. When you do Mac to Mac screen sharing this is an option, you can also share your screen instead of seeing theirs. To do this, make sure the ‘Screen Sharing’ box is checked in System Preferences → Sharing. Also, if the Apple ID they use for iCloud and Messages on the Mac is different, you’ll need to have both emails on their contact card.

Here are two ways to start screen sharing:

Method 1

1. Do a Spotlight search for ‘Screen Sharing’ and launch it.
2. You’ll then see a dialog box with the option to enter the Apple ID of the person you’d like to screen share with.
3. On the receiving end, they’ll see this invitation.
4. Make sure they select ‘Control My Screen.’ The alternate way to start screen sharing is through Messages on macOS.
5. Click ‘Details’ in the top right corner of the message of the person you’d like to screen share with and select ‘Invite to share my screen’ or ‘Ask to share the screen.’
6. They will receive the same accept or decline notification as above and also accept your ability to control their screen.
7. Once you are connected a FaceTime voice call will also automatically initiate and you’ll see everything on their screen.

Method 2

1.  Open QuickTime Player and start a screen recording (File → New Screen Recording) so they can revisit the guidance anytime they want.
2. When you’re ready to end the session, you can click ‘Screen Sharing’ next to the  in the menu bar and select ‘Quit Screen Sharing.’

Screen Share iOS Devices Using Macs

This is a helpful modified use of a developer feature that Apple has built into QuickTime Player that came along with Yosemite. When you use the Screen Sharing Mac app with this screen casting feature option you can see everything happening on an iOS device as long as both parties have Macs.

Here is the procedure:

1. Start a screen sharing session. Have the person you’re helping plug in their iOS device via USB cable to the Mac that they are screen sharing with. 
2. Launch QuickTime Player and click ‘File’ and ‘New Movie Recording.’
3. Once the movie window opens, select the drop down arrow next to the record icon and click the iOS device you’d like to see, then click record.
4. After you’ve solved all their issues, you can even help them save the footage so they can review it later and remember the solution again in the future.

There’s another malicious link floating around that will cause any iOS device to freeze & require a hard reset

If you own an iOS powered gadget, you need to be aware that a malicious link has been floating around the web that will cause your iPhone to freeze. You should perform a hard reset in case if your iPhone or any iOS gadget is frozen.

It has been discovered that playing a certain .mp4 video in Safari on any iOS device will cause the device to slow to a crawl and eventually freeze altogether. Nearly two years ago the "effective power" bug took the internet by storm, and we've seen various other similar issues since then.

A YouTube user with the name EverythingApplePro has released a video, which showcases that playing a video in Safari will cause iOS to overload and become unusable.

It’s not apparently clear as to why this happens. According to experts, the iOS gadget will freeze if you play a corrupted video, which causes a memory leak. If you play the video, iOS will not be able to handle it properly. The bug is not specific to a certain iOS build. The video reveals that the malicious video played on an iPhone loaded with iOS 5 causes the phone to freeze and become unusable.

It has been found that if the bug is replicated in iOS 10.2 beta 3, the iPhone will power off and display the spinning wheel indefinitely. You will view this kind of behavior during the shutdown procedure.

If someone sends you the malicious link and you fall for it, this is luckily a pretty easy problem to fix. All you have to do is hard reboot your device. For any iPhone but the iPhone 7, this can be down by long-pressing the power and Home buttons at the same time. The iPhone 7, of course, uses a new non-mechanical Home button. In order to reboot an iPhone 7, you must long-press the power button and volume down button at the same time.

Study shows iOS devices failing more often than Android - Here is the Reason!

A report claims that more iOS devices crashed this year when compared to Android. A report has revealed that the Apple iOS had a higher failure rate as compared to Android devices in Q3, 2016. It shows that iOS, which powers iPhone and iPad devices suffered 62% failure rate, while Android which powers more devices than iOS faced 47% failure.

According to the latest report from global data security firm Blannco Technology Group, there were more instances of apps crashing on iOS than Android. Apps crashed on 65% of iOS devices as compared to 25% of Android-running devices. It has been further revealed that it was the iPhone 6 which faced maximum lags at 13% followed by the iPhone 6s at 9%, iPhone 5s at 9%, and the iPad Air 2 at 2%.

The prime reason why the iOS devices faced glitches is being blamed on the latest iOS 10 version. An instance of smartphones’ erratic behavior is due to the kind of processor it is equipped with. Often users unknowingly run or try to run graphic-heavy apps on a smartphone running lighter processor, which in turn leads to app crashes and overheating. 

Which App has Maximum Failure Rate?

The report notes that some apps crashed due to overheating. Pokémon GO initially crashed on 5% of iOS devices, twice as compared to Android in the third quarter. The AR game not only crashed, it further drained batteries and hogged system resources, slowing down devices completely. However, the top spot for performance-harming apps continued to be driven by social media. It has been revealed that the top four crashing apps on iOS were Instagram with 14% failure rate, Snapchat at 12%, Facebook at 9% and Messenger at 5%.

Among Android devices, China-based LeEco’s Le 2 had the maximum failure rate at 13% followed by close rival Xiaomi with its Redmi 3S and Redmi Note 3 at 9% each. Surprisingly, Redmi Note 3 is a tested performer and yet according to the Blannco Technology Group report is one of the Android devices faced with maximum performance-related issues. Other Android running devices include the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge at 5% and the Lenovo Vibe K5 Note at 4%.

Prime Reason with Android Devices!

Prime issues with Android devices were related to the battery at 7% and the screen at 6%. It has been further revealed that Samsung-branded smartphones and tablets running Android had the most failures among Android manufacturers at 11% followed by Xiaomi-built devices at 4%. On Android, IMS Service, which is an app used by merchant led the app failure list at 32% followed by the address book app at 12% and Google’s own Play Store app at 10% failure rate.

Apple Seeds macOS Sierra 10.12.2 Beta 6 to Developers

Apple has seeded macOS Sierra 10.12.2 beta 6 to developers for testing. The build number is 16C63a. Just 24 hours after iOS 10.2 beta 7 dropped  and three days following macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 5, Apple on Thursday issued a sixth beta of what would become the second major update to macOS Sierra. macOS Sierra 10.12.2 beta 6 (build number 16C63a) is now available to registered developers.

The update can be deployed via the Mac App Store’s Updates tab on Macs which are registered with the Apple Developer Program. The full installer is on Dev Center.

Aside from bug fixes and performance improvements, macOS 10.12.2 won’t make your daily computing more productive but you’ll enjoy Apple’s new “Color Burst” wallpapers from MacBook Pro marketing and a ton of new Unicode 9.0 emoji characters. This update improves the stability, compatibility, and security of your Mac.

These include clown face, drooling face, selfie, face palm, fox face, owl, shark, butterfly, avocado, pancakes, croissant and more, pus several profession emoji in both male and female genders, such as firefighter, mechanic, lawyer, doctor and scientist.

Available since September, macOS Sierra is the latest Mac operating system. It includes Siri support, Apple pay for the web, Universal Clipboard, Apple Watch auto unlocking, improved iCloud Drive integration, Picture-in-Picture multitasking, and dozens of smaller features.

It also brings the new Unicode 9.0 emoji found in iOS 10.2. The new emoji sets will be available in iOS 10.2 and watchOS 3.1, too.

India to Get Technology to Unlock Any Mobile Phone

Indian law enforcement will soon get the technology to unlock notoriously hard-to-crack iPhones and other electronic devices with top-notch encryption. And India’s forensic facilities could become the global go-to place for law enforcement agencies seeking to unlock high-security devices.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), the country’s premier forensic institute located in Gandhinagar, will be buying the technology from Cellebrite, an Israeli company that was sought out by US’ Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for unlocking a terrorist’s iPhone. 

According to Israeli media reports, the digital forensics company has worked with major intelligence and law enforcement agencies around the world.

FBI and iPhone-maker Apple had fought a public battle over unlocking the iPhone of Syed Farook, who along with his wife had killed 14 people in San Bernardino, California, last December. FBI unlocked the iPhone with the help of Cellebrite, paying the firm a million-dollar-plus fee. Now, FSL is in negotiations with the company to obtain this high-end decryption technology.

“We are likely to have the technology within a month or so. India will become a global hub for cases where law enforcement is unable to break into phones,” said a senior FSL official. All officials spoke on the condition of anonymity. 

The official said devices such as iPhones with operating systems iOS 8 and above are virtually impossible to break into without this technology. In iPhones, failed attempts to guess the passcode results in data deletion or turns data into gibberish. Another FSL official said the laboratory had sought help from the Israeli firm for a few cases. But now the “entire tool” will be obtained. Only FSL Gandhinagar will have this technology. Requests for cracking encrypted devices from the country’s other forensic institutes will be entertained at a fee.

Apple iOS 10.2 Public Beta Version Released

Apple recently rolled out the second beta for its iOS 10.2. This update introduces quite a few important features and upgrades to the iPhone maker’s mobile operating system. The second beta version that Apple has developed for iOS 10.2 is in general not enabled for regular user’s access. These versions are for developers to give a head start in building and tweaking their apps to employ an upcoming iOS update. Frequently, a public beta is rolled out along the developer beta. As the second beta of iOS 10.2 includes a new app, Apple has apprehended a public launch.

The first beta version revealed that the iOS update will include an option to Preserve Settings for the Camera app. This feature will retain the options that the users make while taking pictures. This comes with a new widget for the Video apps too. 

The Non-Developers Can Use it Too

Luckily, for non-developer users, there is a way to install the second beta version even without having an Apple developer account. This method to use the second beta of iOS 10.2 without having a developer account was unveiled by the YouTube user iCrackUri Device. The video demonstrates that the users do not even need to link their iPhone or iPad to their computer. To start, the users will first have to install the Apple’s developer beta profile. Once installed, the new beta version will be accessible as an over-the-air upgrade automatically.

Android Nougat 7 vs. Apple iOS 10 - smart phones OS go head to head

Google recently launched the most recent version of android, android nougat seven whereas Apple remains performing on the coming version of its OS, Apple iOS 10. Both the companies have worked different the operational systems that power their mobile devices for more than half a decade. Whereas iOS was launched in 2007, android was released in 2008 with both the operating systems undergoing a minimum of seven major versions in last eight years.

User Interface

The user interface for both the operating systems has taken a significant overhaul concerning however polished it looks after multiple changes. even though the basic core principles of the home screen in android and the lack of home screen in iOS are glaring, but the delicacy is clear from the initial versions.

Apple iOS 10 focuses on interaction using force touch in Apple devices, where Apple has specifically introduced sensors inside the display to detect the amount of pressure being applied accurately. In addition to force touch, Apple is bringing ‘Rise to wake’ feature which is the Android equivalent of ‘Always on’ display. The company has also changed its stance, introducing widgets on the lock screen and notifications drawer. Another important changes is the support for 3rd party apps to leverage widget framework and include dedicated widgets specific to different apps.

While Android 7 Nougat has changed the navigation bar buttons to include a new function of ‘Quick Switch’ which can be accessed by double tapping the recent button to jump to the last app that you were using. Even though Nougat does not have anything regarding newer ways to interact with the content but we can look forward to a unique experience with Daydream compatible devices.

Notifications

Apple iOS notification system is one of the most robust notification systems in the mobile operating space with a quick glance for everything happening on your iOS device. Apple is making the experience better with the ability to interact with your notifications, right from your lock screen. This newer notification system works with third party apps as well where developers can push live updates to the notifications.

Android Nougat has also improved the notification system, enabling the users to interact with the notifications without opening the app. Google redesigned the entire notification system in Nougat with a uniform width, smaller fonts, and notifications stacked according to apps. Users can even pull down the notification and reply to messages directly from the notification, without opening the messaging app.

Digital Assistants

Apple’s AI based digital assistant, Siri will gain a lot of capabilities with the latest update. Users will be able to book cabs, send messages to a particular contact in a specific third party app like WhatsApp among regular things like conducting an online search, ask for directions, schedules, set alarms, reminders, notifications and making calls all by telling Siri.

Even though Google’s AI-based digital assistant, Google Now does not have these many automation or magical ‘speak, and you shall get it done’ commands, but the offering is gradually improving with each interaction, and we can see it coming in a more comprehensive way with the upcoming Google Pixel lineup.

Messaging

Apple has revamped its messaging service, iMessage from the ground up, adding more social features with a lot of glitter and flash. This is a significant improvement regarding the way one can interact with mere messaging client, but we will wait for the real world change that it brings when it releases.

Things are contrasting if we talk about the Android Nougat side of messaging. Even though Google is working on its new messaging service ‘Google Allo,’ but there is no fixed date for the launch of the app and the efforts to improve messaging seem to be scattered with Messaging, Hangouts, and upcoming Google Allo.
