Google will Show AMP URLs before App Deep Link URLs in Mobile Results!!

If you have AMP URLs active on your website, when users download your mobile app Google won’t be sending them to app deep link URLs!

Google mobile app indexing vs AMP page

Another update to the data anomalies page as on September 20, 2016 says that,

“Search results on mobile devices have begun to direct users to the equivalent AMP page, in preference to the equivalent app or web page. This might result in a decrease of traffic to your app pages when an equivalent AMP page exists”
That means App indexing users may see a drop in the impressions and clicks because AMP now will be listed before App URLs.

Google will now have AMP trump App URLs in the Google mobile search results. Google App Indexing is a system that allows people to click from listings in Google’s search results into apps on their Android and iOS smartphones and tablets. If website has both AMP URLs enabled and also has a mobile app with Firebase App indexing, Google will show the user, even if they downloaded your app, the AMP URL over the deep link to the page within your app.

Google’s John Mueller confirmed this for me on Twitter saying, “Yes, at the moment if an AMP exists for a given URL then we will send the user to that AMP not the deep link.”

John Muller on twitter says AMP exists

After this update is rolling out, Users who download the app will be taken to the AMP URL instead your App URL.
